Junior Summer Irish Camp

Surfing in Tramore

For ages 8 to 13

This year the accompanied group trip will be from:
10th July - 24th July 2022 (2 weeks)

On this course, students stay with a host family for the whole duration of the course and participate in a Summer Camp along with Irish children. On this course students stay with an Irish family, do not mix with other students on other courses and do not do the activities on the Junior Summer Course (even if they are there at the same time). This particular course is good for students who are self-confident and sociable. The success of this course depends a lot on the motivation and character of the student, who has to make an effort to fit in with the family and the children at the Camp. Host families are carefully chosen to ensure a smooth adaptation. This is a very good way to improve quickly. There are no English classes on this course but two full day excursions are included and two evening activities with the other students.

Students need a minimum of A2 English level.

Camps are usually from 10.00h to 15.00h but different times and days can apply.

The trip begins and ends in Andorra, but we also take students from Spain and France and collect them at the airport. Both trips are accompanied by Learn Away staff, who are also co-ordinators with the families in Ireland and who stay in Waterford for part of the course. Any problem which arises can be solved quickly as the staff can be contacted at any time. There is a 24h service to contact the school staff for emergencies (Spanish spoken).

Waterford is a small, safe city in the south east of Ireland and close to many other interesting places. For more information about Waterford and the school, please click here!

What does the course offer?

  • Camp Monday to Friday 10.00h to 15.00.
  • Multi sports / activities with local children.
  • Saturday full day excursions with other students.
  • Two evening activities.

What about the Homestay?

  • All students stay in Irish families carefully selected by the director of the school, who has many years of experience. We also work with her when we send in the application forms so that every student receives a personal service. All families are vetted by the "Garda" (Irish police).
  • Irish families are very sociable and it is an ideal opportunity for students to practise English in a positive and friendly environment and to use it in a variety of situations. Students also get to know another culture and develop personally.
  • Importantly, students are not placed with students who speak any of their languages.
  • Accommodation is sharing a twin room with another student or family member of same sex and similar age.
  • Afternoons, evenings and Sundays are spent with the Host family.
